Curriculum and Professional
Learning
Curriculum:
The curriculum for Rome City Schools is based on the Georgia
Performance Standards for grades K-12. The Georgia Performance
Standards (GPS) provide clear expectations for instruction,
assessment, and student work. They define the level of work
that demonstrates achievement of the standards, enabling a
teacher to know “how good is good enough.” The
performance standards identify the knowledge and skills needed
to problem-solve, reason, communicate, and make connections
with other information. The GPS includes the content standards
(the concepts/content a student is expected to master), suggested
performance tasks, sample student work, and teacher commentary
on that work.
The Georgia Performance Standards have been implemented fully
in the following areas:
English Language Arts and Reading
Mathematics
Science
Social Studies
Fine Arts
Health Education
Physical Education
Modern Languages & Latin
Career, Technical, and Agricultural
Education (CTAE)
GPS for Students with Significant Cognitive Disabilities
Rome City Schools continues to embrace best
practices that are proven to increase student achievement.
Decisions regarding curriculum and instructional approaches
are focused on what will most effectively bring about successful
learning for all students.
GeorgiaStandards.Org (GSO) is a one stop website providing
administrators and teachers with a tool to assist in the implementation
of the Georgia Performance Standards. Information contained
in this site includes: standards and their associated elements,
unit lesson planning, aligned resources, teaching frameworks,
assessment samples, performance tasks, and teaching activities
all designed to support and sustain standards-based teaching
within your school.
Professional Learning:
Professional learning is the means by which educators acquire
the knowledge and skills necessary to create high levels of
learning for all students. Professional learning activities
are focused on providing a safe, risk-free environment that
is conducive to successful learning for all students.
